Il a atteint les sommets dans la société française, éblouissant à la fois comme violoniste et compositeur, et comme champion d'escrime. Une histoire d'amour malheureuse avec une noble française et une brouille avec Marie-Antoinette et sa cour ont conduit à sa chute prématurée.
