Shark APEX UpLight Vacuum vs. Dyson V11 Torque Drive: Which Is the Better Vacuum to Buy?

The Shark APEX UpLight Lift-Away DuoClean has made quite a stir on the vacuum cleaning market when it first came out. Though it is positioned as a mid-range vacuum, the APEX UpLight was more than capable of going toe-to-toe with high-end models.

That’s why, in this article, we will be testing the Shark apex uplight vacuum against one of the best models that the market has to offer — the Dyson V11 Torque Drive — to see how it fares.

Price

When it comes to price, the Shark UpLight takes the win right-away. At the moment, you can get the vacuum for anywhere between $180 to $220 depending on the model and the outlet.

Meanwhile, if you want the Dyson V11, you need to shell out well over $600.

Performance

During our performance tests, surprisingly, the results came out as a tie.

The Shark APEX UpLight Lift-Away DuoClean was able to score a much higher score on hardwood floors. Particularly, when it comes to cleaning large debris.

The UpLight was able to ingest up to 95% of the test particles we strewn on the floor. As for the V11, we measured only around 80% - 85%.

This is a very surprising result considering their respective price points. If you’re going to use your vacuum primarily as a hardwood floor cleaner, you’ll get a lot more value out of the cheaper APEX UpLight than the V11.

Where the Dyson V11 shined, though, is on carpeting. On both low-pile and high-pile carpets, the V11 scored higher than the APEX UpLight.

In the end, it boils down to what you want to use your vacuum for. If you get the APEX UpLight, you’ll find it excellent to use on hardwood. On the other hand, you will fare significantly better with a Dyson V11 if your house has area carpets and the likes.

Design

In terms of design, the Shark APEX UpLight was a little bit heavier and larger than the Dyson V11. It also doesn’t have all of the fancy features like the back-mounted LCD screen of the V11.

The Shark apex uplight lift-away duoclean has a 30-foot long power cord. For a corded vacuum, this is perfectly decent. You can easily clean medium to large-size houses with the range that the long power cord offers.

But the Dyson V11 has infinite range due to the fact that it uses an internal battery rather than a power cord. The battery can sustain the vacuum’s operation for up to an hour.

The Shark APEX UpLight, overall, will give you the basic lightweight and versatility that you would expect from an average stick vacuum. Its convenience is also acceptable, too.

On the other hand, the Dyson V11 is the upgraded variant with better ergonomics and functionalities.

Accessories

Number-wise, the Dyson is at a slight advantage in this department. When you purchase the V11 Torque Drive, you get five different pieces of accessories. With the APEX UpLight, you get only four.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Shark apex uplight corded lift away is an excellent alternative to the Dyson V11 that’s not only cheaper but, in select scenarios like cleaning hardwood, better, too. Consider your use case carefully before you make your purchase!
